what we do
Our programming represents a development model that guides artists through creating, developing, and producing new work in a collective space while elevating unheard voices in our community. In all of our work, The House uplifts underrepresented identities and ensures accessibility in every element.

the open house
The Open House is our community building series, with opportunities for artists to workshop, craft, and create together. We’re dedicated to uniting people through exciting and no-barrier “ins” to the theatre world. Upcoming programming may include networking events, open mics, co-working sessions, and all-access productions.
The Playhouse is our workshop production series, carrying new work into theatres across the city and connecting skilled emerging artists across disciplines. We aim to focus our Playhouse pieces on actualizing new works and giving artists the resources to continue producing their shows and push their careers into the next level, taking off as much of the burden of “self-producing” that too often falls into the hands of early-career artists.

the greenhouse
The Greenhouse is our new play incubator series, dedicated to regular readings of new work and an intimate feedback session for playwrights. This is a chance for writers at all levels of experience to develop their plays in community and begin working towards the next stages of that development.

the greenhouse writers' workshop
Our inagural cohort of the Greenhouse Writers' Workshop is officially in session! For two months, 8 underrepresented early-career writers will gather in community to create and develop full drafts of brand new pieces. Run by Managing Director Sophie Simons (NYSAF 40th Season Artist-in-Residence, Helen J Price Memorial Prize Recipient), and Literary Manager Isabel Tongson (Miranda Family Fellow, Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center National Theatre Institute alum, NYSAF 41st Season Artist-in-Residence), this group will take up to 6 early-career artists new to writing with The House through creating and collaborating workshopping on a first draft of a full-length piece. Each artist will have the opportunity to generate a new idea or develop an existing one, crafting a full draft of a new piece in its entirety throughout the workshop. The workshop will culminate with a public presentation on December 11th/12th, 2026, featuring excerpts of all of the selected artists' pieces directed by Artistic Director Miranda Paiz (NAMT '25 Emerging Artist). Check back here for updates and RSVP links to our final presentations in December!
